NATIVE PLANT TOURS
For
those of you who want to learn about the many uses of the native
plants of the region, make arrangements for a guided tour of the
ranch. Learn about the edible, medicinal, and poisonous
plants which you will see as you ride along on a covered
trailer. You will hear about how you can have a meal,
build a shelter, and then wash your clothes all with the help of
one plant, how to rid yourself of Montezuma's revenge with
another plant, and why you should never make a beaded necklace
with the seeds of yet another native plant.
If it is
a morning tour, the two-hour tour includes coffee and pan dulce.
And if you arrange to come on a weekend, you may get to sample a
dish prepared with a native plant! Click here to get the
recipe for Toni's delicious Mesquite
Sugar Cookies.
Tour
prices vary with the size of the group:
- More than 15 people -
$15.00 per person (children pay half price)
- Less than 15 - $225.00
per tour
Special
tours are available for school groups of at least 20 at $5.00
per student.1 If it is a morning tour, have the
children bring a sack lunch to eat on the patio after the tour.
A $100.00
deposit is required for adult tour groups, and a $50.00 deposit
is required for school tour groups. Please send a check or
money order to reserve your spot. Make reservations as
soon as possible to reserve the date you want. Click here
to see a calendar of available tour dates. Reservations
will be held for seven days to allow for your deposit to arrive.
All of the deposit will be refunded if you cancel thirty days
prior to the reserved tour date. Half of the deposit will
be refunded if you cancel fifteen days prior to the reserved tour
date. There are no refunds for cancellations within
fifteen
days of the tour date.
Occasionally tours are "rained out" due to weather or road
conditions. For that reason, it is very important that you
provide us with contact information for at least two individuals
in your group. If we cancel your tour due to weather or
road conditions, you will receive a full refund or you can
reschedule if another suitable date is available. For the
comfort of our guests (and us), no tours are booked during June, July
and August.
Because
we so frequently hear from individuals or families that would
like to come on a tour, but do not have a group to come with, we
are going to try having a couple of "Open Tour Dates" to accommodate
those individuals. Open Tour Dates do not require a
minimum number of participants nor does the minimum charge of
$225 apply. Please check the
calendar for "Open
Tour Dates" or for a tour which has been reserved for fewer than
thirty people and we will see what we can do. Individuals
not associated with a tour group must send a deposit to cover
the tour price.
1Refreshments are not provided for student or other discounted
tours.
